The brain is your body’s control center. It sends out messages that tell all the other parts of your body what to do. These messages travel along pathways made up of nerves. Your brain has more than 100 billion nerve cells. These cells are called neurons. Each neuron is connected to other neurons. It is possible for a neuron to be connected to as many as 50,000 other neurons. All of these connections are what make up the pathways that allow for your brain to send messages throughout your body. The more pathways your brain has, the easier it is for your brain to think and help you do things. When you learn something new, like kicking a ball or throwing Frisbee®, you create a new connection between the cells in your brain. The next time you do it, it becomes easier and you get better at it because you already have a connection for it. If you continue doing it, you getter better and better at it because your brain is making the connection stronger and faster. Below are two ways for you to test out how connecting neurons in your brain works. Try them out and see what happens. Keep in mind, they may be very hard at first, but once you continue practicing them, your brain will automatically know what to do.
Brain Connection Test 1:
Make two fists with your hands. On your right hand, stick your thumb up. On your left hand, stick your index finger straight out. Now, try to switch them so that your left thumb is up and your right index finger is out. At the same time, you right thumb needs to go down and your left index finger needs to come in. Once you have it, try switching them back. Continue switching them and see how fast you can do it. It won’t happen right away, you have to think about it and work on it.
Brain Connection Test 2:
Hold both hands up in front of you. On your right hand, hold up five fingers. On your left hand, hold up two fingers. Now, try to switch them so that you have five fingers up on your left hand and only two fingers up on your right hand. Once you switch them, switch them back. Continue switching them and see how fast you can do it. It won’t happen right away, you have to think about it and work on it.
